What is an umbrella review?

An umbrella review synthesizes multiple systematic reviews and meta-analysis on a specific topic with the goal of determining agreement across reviews.1

Why would you do an umbrella review?

  • There are a lot of systematic reviews and meta-analyses on a topic
  • You want to answer a research question that involves multiple interventions or outcomes
