EndNote Online (also sometimes listed as EndNote Web) is web-based and does many of the same things (save citations, create bibliographies automatically in Microsoft Word, etc). Even if you do not plan to use the online version, it can be useful to register for an EndNote account to sync your desktop library to back-up your work and to allow you to easily transfer your library to a new device.

It is recommended that EndNote Desktop users also register for an EndNote Online account. Syncing both programs ensures that nothing will be lost in the case of computer issues. To sync the desktop version with EndNote Online:

1. Open the desktop version of EndNote
2. Click the Sync button in the toolbar
3.  Enter your EndNote Online email address and password to login to your account.
4. Click 'OK' to begin the synchronization process.
